Getting lost on your way to a class? Or even worse, an exam? There’s nothing worse. The WKO Campus in the heart of Vienna is a hub for learning and professional development, home to multiple schools, universities and innovation centers spread across three connected buildings. When it went through a major renovation in 2021, it needed a clear wayfinding system. With its many entrances, bridges and staircases, getting lost was one of the most common complaints, and the institutions’ own inconsistent signage only added to the confusion.

Strategy
In collaboration with Nofrontiere, we carefully studied every pathway, staircase, entrance and critical point, flagging every corner that might confuse visitors. The goal was a clean, organized system that is easy to see for everyone and reflects the building’s modern architecture and many organizations without feeling cluttered.
The design is built on a square-based modular grid inspired by the square logos of the institutions in the building. The square signs also stand for the idea of thinking »around the corner«: no matter which direction you enter from, you can see exactly where to go. Sans-serif typography and a monochromatic color palette echo the modern architecture and quietly guide visitors to their destination.
