The Postsparkasse is considered one of the most important Art Nouveau buildings in Vienna and set new standards in architecture and construction. For the building’s internal wayfinding system, we designed a custom typeface, »Wagner PSK«, derived from the original lettering in the building, creating a link between past and present.

Otto Wagner’s architecture and design were always ahead of their time: consistently modern and functional, with high aesthetic standards. His conceptual skill shows in the façade, where numerous marble slabs are held in place by 17,000 aluminum rivets. Together, they evoke an iron-clad treasure chest, a symbol of money kept safe. Wagner proved that practicality and usability can lead to intelligent, coherent and highly aesthetic solutions.

With its unique, historically inspired yet modern look, the monospaced display font works well for striking headlines and as an ornamental typeface, and it pairs nicely with modern sans-serif fonts. The character set includes 26 letters, 3 umlauts, the numerals 0 to 9, and a range of punctuation and mathematical symbols.
