In 2019 Janina Engel designed a joyful, vibrant brand that would differentiate Bienenkönigin the sea of honey brands found at the local grocery store. The client wanted something edgy, humorous, and illustrative that would reflect the young business owners and their enthusiasm for a sustainable, bee-friendly, and high quality product. With great attention to detail we designed a fun, colorful, and dynamic brand that captures the love and dedication to good quality honey. As the queen bee is out working to produce said honey, the bee king (»Bienenkönig«) is there to help her endeavors and create a link to us humans. He is adventurous, fun, and sometimes indulges in nature's gold as well.

The visual identity incorporates a comprehensive illustration system and a cheerful color palette giving the brand a flavorful and exciting visual storyline while showcasing the different elements of beekeeping. Honey would not exist without happy, motivated bees and a flourishing environment they can pollinate. The illustration system embodies the relationship between bees, flowers, and the beekeeper needed for high quality honey. It conveys not only an exciting take on beekeeping, it reminds us how good quality honey can’t exist without being completely in touch with nature. Bienenkönig, a premier honey brand, crafts exquisite delights while prioritizing the well-being of their bees throughout every process. The design reflects a fresh, playful, and flavorful brand strategy, emphasizing their commitment to setting themself apart, capturing new audiences, and honoring a legacy of artisanal excellence.
