»Nutrimentum Cerebri«, translated as »food for thought or food for the brain«, is an experimental representation of the information processes in the human brain. The work deals with the information overload that people are confronted with on a daily basis and how the human brain processes these visual, textural and auditory elements. While experimenting with different influences, we ended up conducting a small data science and research experiment to investigate how brain activity is differently affected by frequently words, images and sounds.

The brain waves were measured and analyzed with the help of electroencephalography (EEG). To give the participants an understanding of the complexity of the brain and its information mechanisms, we created interactive and life drawn motion graphics using creative coding. With Openframeworks we were able to integrate the real-time EEG data to generate different images, flows and structures. This resulted in a spectacular installation showcasing how the brain reacts to various stimuli and letting the viewer see how their neurons work, and create interesting moving images. The graphics were created by different pattern formations of a network and symbolize the neuronal connections of the human brain.
The project also included an open thread bound book with neon threads that was printed and bound by F&W and laser cut by Stigler GmbH. In addition we designed riso-print postcards using the illustrative formations and layering them with neon colors, printed by Herr und Frau Rio.
